I think her brilliance isn’t just in identifying a product for women, but a great supply chain idea. Who would you more trust to buy something from than your neighbor selling Mary Kay products? Plus she came up with a great reward system and an easily recognizable status symbol (the pink Cadillac) that shows that the woman driving it is a success.
She combined incredible business sense and a great grasp of the psychology of her target market and the women who sell the product.
