Man made global warming is non existent and it makes absolutely no sense for any country to destroy their economy to stop something that there is no evidence that exists. Less than 17% of climatologists believe in man made global warming the only real consensus is its natural weather patterns caused by the intensity of the sun.
First of all, you’re assuming that the position of the Indian government is based on the conclusions of its scientists. This is a false assumption.
“It is unequivocal that the climate is changing, and it is very likely that this is predominantly caused by the increasing human interference with the atmosphere. These changes will transform the environmental conditions on Earth unless counter-measures are taken.
Signed, Indian National Science Academy, India”
http://www.nationalacademies.org/includes/G8Statement_Energy_07_May.pdf
India’s position is due to the fact that it’s a rapidly developing country which is currently highly reliant on fossil fuels. They get about 55% of their energy from coal.
http://www.indiacore.com/coal.html
It takes investments to convert to greener energy sources. Developed countries like the USA have the resources to put into that kind of change. It’s much more difficult for a developing country with over 1 billion people.
Unfortunately the government is being very short-sighted. As you note, they’ll be heavily impacted by climate change. But nobody ever said politicians were smart.
And yes, the US will keep pushing cap and trade and keep pushing India and China to follow suit. If we don’t take the lead, we’re in no position to try and make them reduce their emissions. If we don’t reduce ours, there’s exactly zero chance that these developing countries will reduce theirs.
India, a developing country, won’t act if we don’t, and we haven’t acted yet. In addition, considering that their emissions per person is so much lower than ours, we inevitably have an obligation for deeper cuts. We make firm commitments, and they no longer have the “if we act alone it won’t help” excuse that political hacks in our country continue to make.
So they need to see us to pass legislation before they make a move.
Of course it makes sense; our greenhouse gas production far exceeds that of China and India combined. They’ll comply eventually, as first world pressure escalates.
We care about environment. And we appeal companies to support green a lot. Let’s heal the world, heal the earth.
There’s two assumptions in your questions. Neither of which has actually been proven (or disproven).
First, you assume that global warming is caused by human-created pollution; The problem is, no one has actually proven any such thing, and in fact, there is more evidence against than for human-caused warming.
Your second problematic assumption is that tsunamis are caused by weather. They’re not. They originate from earthquakes, not weather patterns. More energetic storms caused by global warming would not cause more tsunamis.
If India abandoned industry, to the extent that would be required to match the US in emission controls, it would utterly destroy them as a nation. Much of their population would starve, they’d experience an economic depression like nothing else seen in history. And if China didn’t do the same, it wouldn’t do them a bit of good, ecologically speaking. In terms of the damage it would do to them as a nation, a limited nuclear war between them and Pakistan would probably be less damaging, both in the short and long terms.
So no, India is not being stupid. They’re being smart.
Because the Indians have more sense than the US and other countries pushing the CO2 global warming agenda.
CO2 has nothing to do with what little NATURAL global warming we are experiencing, something more to do with changes to the Earths orbit around the Sun, and tectonic plate activity resulting in emission changes from both above ground and undersea volcanic action.
The greenhouse gas lobby has an anti business agenda to push, and is backed by green terrorist groups.
Because the Indians aren’t eco-politically motivated
they look at the environment rationally
they know that they can’t effect the climate
and that trying to effect the climate would bankrupt them
Why?
It’s plain as the nose on your face. India knows that their economy needs electricity to grow. More electricity = more GDP. Clearly they are willing to risk rising sea level and flooded lowlands 50 years from now in exchange for prosperity now.
So they and China are building coal fired power plants to support the growth. It’s that simple. Why coal? Because it is currently the the cheapest way to generate electricity. That’s your economics 101 lesson for the day kids.
And it’s useful propaganda that the U.S. creates more greenhouse gas than India and China combined. China passed the U.S. last year in total output. (But they’re still not willing to cut back. Why? Economics 101) The U.S. created more GHG on a per captia basis. In total emissions, we are number two, soon to be number three as India keeps building those coal fired power plants.
