i agree, someone find him a hostel!!

  3. fanella says:

Some work hard and get nothing while others dont work at all and get lots….and people say luck has nothing to do with it….
    Hah!

  4. Mistress says:

Point one- tough s*it- the courts disagree with you.
Point two: He’ll only have to pay tax on it (capital gains) if he sells it. Until then, it isn’t wealth, just land.
And it’s his home, like it or not- nobody else wanted it for long enough, so why shouldn’t he be entitled?

I agree with you 100%. The law and government does nothing to protect or reward those people who work hard and save money to BUY property. Become a lazy scumbag and you get everything. What message does this give to society? Landowners beware – I can see a rise in squatters claiming rights over property already.
Some advice – if you rent out land year after year to the same tenent, get legal advice incase they try to claim it. A friend of mine lost a plot of land this way. The scumbag who took the land lives in a council house across the road from me!
Bet that pensioner pays no tax and gets every benefit going. Maybe he’ll get a grant to build a house there !

  6. Groid says:

only if he sells he land, he will have to pay capital gains tax and will have to stop claiming the dole.

  7. The_Info says:

yes its disgusting – it just makes me mad that people can do nothing and come of better when im getting up at 6 everyday, earning a living – and for what….? we are all a bunch of mugs arent we – just being laughed at really

  8. ejb199 says:

    How does that work then?
I’m not up on squatter’s rights, but surely if somebody had property deeds then he could be removed. In my mind, it doesn’t matter how long he was there for – if someone owned the land, he was trespassing.
Just because there is no-one there to tell him he’s wrong, doesn’t make him right.
However, if indeed nobody owned the land, then I suppose he’s entitled to claim it.
It can’t be theft without an owner to take it from, and after two decades of being there, how can anyone argue against him owning the place if nobody else does?

  9. pcilliterate. JaUf. says:

Tax on the property? I doubt it, but he should have to pay council tax like everyone else, which means he’ll have to get a job (but I bet the lucky scrote claims benefits).
I have to say though, considering no-one laid claim to it for 21 years, it’s hardly theft. If you left something of yours unattended for that amount of time, would you expect to get it back?
I just can’t believe that an 800 acre plot of land in London can just be forgotten about like that.

good luck to him.has kept to himself and has lived in rough conditions,ie no running water or electricty all these years.the law is on his side .once again we can see the green eyed monster raising its head again.

The eccentric old chap has been there 12 years, if people objected they’ve had ample time to get something done about it! The land was worthless until somebody had to put a price on it for the legalities and may well be unsuitable for development anyway – or some developer would have been after it long before now! Good for him, I don’t think he’s ever likely to have the plans or the funds to build on it ! I’d love to know – from the previous poster where grants for the construction of a house are available – there’s an overgrown patch of contaminated weeds up the road I’d love to build a house on! Long live the great british eccentric I say!
